HUMAN RIGHTS

MacLeod Law Firm has been advising employees on human rights issues for over 20 years.

We advise disabled persons: Are you disabled and unable to perform all  your job duties? Do you have questions about your employer’s duty to accommodate your disability? Are you on sick leave and is your employer resisting your request to return to work?

We advise women: Do you work in a male-dominated workplace where you are treated differently than your male colleagues? Are you being sexually harassed or subject to a poisoned work environment? Have you filed a discrimination complaint under your employer’s internal complaint procedure and the employer is not taking it seriously? Are you being treated differently because you are married or have children?

We advise pregnant employees: Are you pregnant and want to know your rights before you start a pregnancy leave? Has your employer’s requested that you take on a new position when you return to work when your pregnancy leave ends?

We advise older employees: Do you think your employer took your age into account when it decided to terminate you?

We advise persons of colour: Are you a person of colour who is being harassed because of your colour or race?  Have you been denied a promotion due to your place of origin or ancestry?

We advise LGBTQ persons: Are you being treated differently because of your sexual orientation or gender identity? Are you being harassed or subject to a poisoned work environment?

If you are being treated differently at work because of a personal characteristic like your gender, the color of your skin, your religion, where you were born, or your sexual orientation then your employer may be violating the Ontario Human Rights Code and if so you are entitled to damages.

To determine whether your rights have been violated under the Ontario Human Rights Code (or the Canadian Human Rights Act), we need to meet with you and discuss your situation. This is called an initial consultation. This consultation involves a very close review of the facts.

During the initial consultation, MacLeod Law Firm gathers the facts that are needed to give you an informed legal opinion.
